I have a 2014 Equinox V6 AWD with 83,700 Miles. At my last oil change to service tech informed me a transmission service is over due. The service manual shows 2 different service schedules: normal or servers. The normal schedule (what I thought I was supposed to follow) says to change the fluid at 97,500 miles, and the servers says to change at 45,000 miles. I live near Detroit, Mi and don’t drive delivery or in heavy city traffic much, so I don’t think I meet the requirements for the severe schedule. The tech I spoke to when I called today said it’s recommended due to the cold weather we get.
So my question is, given the mileage and the service recommendations, should I do a flush at the dealer or a couple of drain/fills (which I can do at home)? I have heard some bad things about flushing the transmission so I don’t want to get into a situation of damaging it if I’m actually really overdue.
